Just a memory of a long ago lost dance buddy. Took me a brain strain to remember the name but I did. And now wondering what he’s up to. That quick search on the Internet came up empty. Anyone know of a Mr. Todd F. Bailey from central Indiana? Gay, and back in the late 90s, early 00’s was quite coupled with a guy who’s name I don’t remember at all, though both were hella hot and hella nice. He was at the time in real estate, and they together were frequent Crobar GLEEClub patrons.

Yours in nostalgic wondering, Eric Small

* WPG2 CANNOT LOCATE GALLERY2 ITEM ID 5211 * * WPG2 CANNOT LOCATE GALLERY2 ITEM ID 5213 * Do you like re-reading books you’ve read before? I do. Sometimes it’s just nice to lay back and re-experience a good story you’ve read a number of times before. I just finished these two favorites from my pretty large Star Trek collection. The first is about the Enterprise being whisked across the universe through an invisible “gate” … then having issues when they can’t get back. There’s war and philosophy – exactly like good science fiction should have.

The second is a follow-up to the first, but this time, the Enterprise is investigating the gates to once again save the Federation. And once again, they get stuck far, far, FAR from home. And there’s once more a mysterious enemy that threatens the mission.

Together these two kept me busy for about a week. And I’m sure I’ll read them again in times to come. They bring me back to my youth, whilst also taking me away to the future. You can’t beat that!

– Geeked out in Sci-Fi, Eric Small

This Friday will be my 4th major diva and I’m actually getting really excited. Previous divas included Madonna (#1), Olivia Newton-John (#2, but really #1 in my heart), Cher (#3) at the Hollywood Bowl. And now Britney, the reining Queen of Pop, gets to be my #4. The show is this Friday, April 17th at the Staples Center! Woooooooooo!

Along for the ride is my roommate and good buddy, Rusty – a true Britney fanatic. I’ll share pictures of the Britney Wall of Fame another time.

* WPG2 CANNOT LOCATE GALLERY2 ITEM ID 1592 * Back around Labor Day of 1999 was my vacation up and down the coast of California. I was in my late 20s then. The trip involved a couple days in Los Angeles at the beginning and end of the trip. And in that short time I managed to find myself at a number of parties, some in the hills, some just around town, including this pool party at some house of a guy I’d never met, in a neighborhood I’d never been to, and with a friend I’d only met in the most casual of ways back home some years before. I remember the pool was huge and the guys were all crazy hot. And I recall thinking how wonderful LA was. So wonderful that I decided in some small way that I was going to move here.

And in time I did.

Of course, that was then. These days I don’t even know about pool parties, and I barely even go out. No one I met at that party could I even say I see out casually these days. LA has grown on me and worn on me too. But no matter what, I do think I had some good life experiences here. But I feel the call of NYC. Partially for the same false reasons I felt the call to LA, though this time I know it. Regardless, the time is nearing I think.

I’m just wondering when.

- Yours, both sleepy and nostalgic, Eric Small

Have I mentioned that I began a new group on the LinkedIn web site? No, no…of course I haven’t. It’s named GLBT Professionals (and Friends) and its specifically for, well, anyone. Anyone that has stepped out of the 1940’s and embraced that gays and their kin are welcome members in society. Here’s the description:

This group is for members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered (GLBT) community and anyone who supports non-discrimination in the workplace based on sexual orientation. Or support hiring of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered persons for workplace diversity and community unity.

If you’re interested, just make sure you have a LinkedIn profile (a good idea anyway), and go to the link http://www.linkedin.com/e/gis/136406/707BE82B3560 to find the group. If you want, you can give me a heads up so that I can pre-approve you, but I’ve been checking for new member requests daily anyway.

So, I’d love to have you! Please come on in and join the group.

- Your GLBT friend and group leader, Eric Small

* WPG2 CANNOT LOCATE GALLERY2 ITEM ID 2052 * Back in 2000 or something like that, my company took literally everyone to Orlando for an “All Hands” meeting. Being as boring as that was, a small group of us, led by “the gays” of course, decided that we would fly to Miami for the weekend after the meeting was over. The Cardoza was where we stayed. We had some great food, and went out to Crobar. For some reason we had a contest to see who could kiss the most guys and pretty much everyone lost. Except somehow me…who met a cute guy named George (below), who I brought back to the hotel with us. In any case, we actually made what was a stupid trip into something interesting and memorable. * WPG2 CANNOT LOCATE GALLERY2 ITEM ID 2054 *

So…about three months or so ago (three? already?), I made a new friend. Since then, it has transitioned into what I suppose in high school I would have called “dating”, and seems to be well on the way to “boyfriend” status. At 35 years old, and after a 6 year hiatus, all these labels seem kind of ridiculous. But yet I’m struggling with my innate human need to organize and classify. And in doing so falling into the same stupid pitfalls I’ve dealt with in all my past relationships.

But even while I watch for those traps, I have to say, so far, so good.

We don’t see eye-to-eye a lot, but these days, that’s nice.

We disagree on what makes a good movie, but now I find that difference life expanding.

We already fight over money, which is trying, but in the end, comforting to know we work through it.

He challenges me, he thrills me, he makes me smile, and he can even make me sad.

So…is it love? I’m still figuring that out. But I’m happy he’s there to figure it out with. The friendship will last forever. And we might even both find something more.
